About Taekwon-Do
Taekwon-do is the scientific use of the mind and body in the method of self defence.
Korean TKD translated from Korean, Taekwon-Do literally means the following.
TAE – Means to jump, kick or smash with the foot.
KWON – Means to punch or destroy with the hand or fist.
DO – Means art, way or method.Therefore Taekwon-Do means the art of foot and hand
Taekwon-Do was brought to the UK in 1967 after being developed by Major General Choi Hong Hi 9th Degree for many years, it wasn’t until 1955 his studies were combined to form Taekwon-Do as we know it today.Taekwon-do can benefit many people in many different ways, all lessons encourage the students to improve confidence, self control, perserverance, flexibility, courtesy, strength, stamina and much much more.

About Thornbury Taekwon-Do
Thornbury Taekwon Do was established in October 2001 by Mr Vaughan Buxton 5th Degree and is now home to Students ranging from ages 4 to 64. At Thornbury TKD we aim to provide the highest quality instruction possible and all instructors attend regular training courses, including child protection, first aid and BTC. All instructors are regularly CRB checked, registered and insured with the British TaeKwon-Do council.
